Born in Seoul, Korea, Jennifer began her piano studies at the age of five. At eleven she and her family moved to New Zealand where she continued her musical studies and soon became an active performer both as soloist and chamber musician.
After gaining her undergraduate degree with distinction at Victoria University in New Zealand in 2005, she won a full scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she entered the class of Martin Roscoe. In 2006 she gained her Master’s degree with Distinction and in 2007 she was awarded MMP (Guildhall Artist) also with Distinction. She has succeeded in winning numerous prizes such as First Prize in the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition (UK); J. Wight Henderson Prize at the 8th Scottish International Piano Competition; the McCullum Prize at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in london; 2007 Dame Myra Hess Award (Musicians’ Benevolent Fund, UK); Annual Romantic Piano Prize at the Guildhall School and most recently was awarded the Raymond Fox Bursary from Making Music Awards, the National Federation of Music Societies in London. She has given solo recitals throughout UK and abroad in venues such as St. James’s Piccadilly, Jerwood Hall in LSO St. Luke’s, St Martin’s-in-the-field, Princess Alexandra’s Hall at the Royal Overseas House in London and Royal Overseas House in Edinburgh. She has also been invited to perform at the Yamaha Piano Concert Series at the Chappell’s in London, Edinburgh Music Festival, Winchester Festival and Ribble Valley International Piano Festival, London Symphony Orchestra Discovery Afternoon Series, Jeunesses Musicales International in Spain.
She has collaborated with Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra (UK), Wellington Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestra and Victoria University Orchestra.
She has worked in masterclasses with Stephen Kovacevich, Emanuel Ax, Pascal Roge, John Perry, Bernard d’Ascoli, Dominique Merlet, Belcea Quartet and Heine Quartet.
Her major teachers include Thomas Hecht, Diedre Irons and Martin Roscoe and she continues her studies at the Guildhall under senior professor, Joan Havill. Her upcoming performances include solo appearances at the Stromstad Summer Music Festival in Sweden, 11th Val Tidone International Music Festival in Italy (Milan) and Holland International Music Session.
In London she has received generous sponsorship from MB Adams Scholarship, Sheldon Award, Tayler Wessing Company and the Myra Hess Foundation (MBF).
